The Wisconsin Office of Rural Health’s Data Assessment Tools section provides access to rural health data and assessment tools to explore issues that impact rural health.

Data are available at national, regional, state, county, and, in rare cases, sub-county levels.

Data

Rural WI Demographics 2022 – Similar to the Census Bureau’s QuickFacts, this fact sheet includes demographic data on rural (nonmetro) and urban (metro) counties in Wisconsin.

Rural Health Information Hub’s Wisconsin Chart Gallery – A fantastic resource comparing nonmetro and metro data regarding demographics, health outcomes, and social determinants of health. Click the “Narrow by topic” button to see a list of chart topics.

WI Hospitals’ Community Benefit Activities 2019 – A report describing how hospitals address the health needs of their communities.

Obstetric Services Report 2018 – A report describing obstetric services and workforce in Wisconsin hospitals.

Rural Wisconsin Health 2017 – A comparison of rural and urban health behaviors and outcomes using data from the County Health Rankings.

County Health Data – The resources below provide county-level data that can be helpful with local assessments. The Office of Rural Health is not responsible for the accuracy or quality of data reported by other organizations.

Assessment Tools

The assessment tools below were developed by the Office of Rural Health and are available for public use.

Attributes of a Successful Rural Ambulance Service – A 20-question survey designed to assess operational strengths and areas for improvement. A workbook that guides agencies toward improvement is also available.

EMS Patient Care Policies and Procedures Assessment – This survey is intended to assess ambulance services’ policies and procedures regarding time-critical diagnoses such as ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), stroke, trauma, and cardiac arrest. Includes questions regarding the quality and review of protocols, training, and working with receiving hospitals.
