In 2016, the Wisconsin Office of Rural Health asked all ambulance services in Wisconsin—from rural to urban—about their patient care policies and practices. The assessment focused on the policies and procedures for the treatment of time critical diagnosis patients (e.g. those suffering from a cardiac arrest, stroke, ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or trauma). The goal of the assessment was to provide examples for agencies of what a high capacity EMS service’s policy might look like regarding patient care. We then issued these resources for best practices.
