COVID-19 Highlights Rural Broadband Issues

Almost one third of Wisconsin’s rural population did not have broadband access in 2019, according to the Federal Communications Commission. But recent changes to education and work due to the pandemic means schools and businesses have now migrated online. Senator Tammy Baldwin has introduced a bill that would provide funding for WiFi hotspots at schools and libraries to help people get online during the pandemic, but the bill does not include funding to expand broadband infrastructure.
