The Department of Health Services is concerned about the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in the state. On Saturday, the state broke a daily record with 739 new cases. Moreover, half of all positive cases have been reported in the past five weeks. DHS contract tracing has revealed that the surge in cases in due to the increase in socializing at bars and at private family events and gatherings. One percent of cases can be traced to attending protests or rallies. Also alarming to health officials is the increase in cases among young people. Twenty-three percent of cases in Wisconsin last week were people in their twenties, compared to eleven percent in April.
