DHS Expects Much More Medicaid Spending

State health officials are telling legislators that there will be a dramatic increase in enrollment of the state’s Medicaid program due to the financial stress of the pandemic. DHS Secretary Andrea Palm encouraged lawmakers to act. Under recent federal actions, Wisconsin will receive $150 million each quarter to pay for Medicaid costs but lawmakers must act quickly to adjust state rules to get the federal money. Legislators are expected to work on legislation sometime this spring.
