The Northwoods and Western Wisconsin regions are seeing their highest levels of COVID-19 hospitalizations since the pandemic began. The numbers reflect the soaring rate of COVID-19 infections in July. Hospital leaders are confident that they will have the capacity to care for more patients, though they have voiced concerns over the potential for new outbreaks as the school year begins. State data shows an average of 355 people per day were hospitalized with COVID-19 in August across the state. Wisconsin’s hospital beds are now 79% full, with patients of all diseases, not just COVID-19.
