Less Monitoring of Ticks and Mosquitos in 2020

Public health departments across the state are decreasing tick and mosquito surveillance as the coronavirus pandemic has taken center stage. This summer only 3 state parks have been checked for ticks, instead of the average 10 or more. State entomologists say the lack of surveillance could mean missing out on potential health problems. The CDC has asked local health officials to continue mosquito monitoring, but local health departments lack the funding to address the pandemic and routine health hazards.
