The Wisconsin Nurses Association says the shortage of health care workers has reached a crisis level in the state. The association’s Chief Operating Officer, Gina Dennik-Champion, said the lack of frontline workers has become critical. “I would say this is probably the worst we’ve been,” she said. Nurses are getting infected by the coronavirus at work or in the community, while others are exiting the workforce to keep their families safe, says Dennik-Champion. Stress and burnout are other key factors for the shortage.
