President Trump Issues Executive Order Focused on Rural Health

President Trump signed an Executive Order on Monday to improve rural healthcare and telehealth services. The order requires the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to create a new Medicare payment model for rural health providers. This order also requires HHS to submit a report to the President on how to reduce regulatory and disease burdens and improve maternal and mental health in rural areas. The order seeks to improve healthcare internet infrastructure for rural Americans. Last, the order requires HHS to extend current waivers put into place during the COVID-19 public health emergency that have added important flexibilities and telehealth access to millions of people.
