Public Health Workers Face Growing Threats

A review by Kaiser Health News and the Associated Press finds at least 27 state and local health leaders have resigned, retired, or been fired since April. Many left their posts due to stressful, non-stop work combined with a backlash against public health ordinances. Dr. Amy Acton, Ohio’s top public health official, quit after armed protesters showed up at her home. Here in Wisconsin, top Republican lawmakers have called on Department of Health Services Secretary-Designee Andrea Palm to resign and the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled she overstepped her authority with her safer-at-home order.
