The Wisconsin Legislature opens its 2021-2022 session today. Pandemic response measures and election procedures are expected to be the top priorities. Wisconsin state government has not passed legislation related to the pandemic since April. Governor Tony Evers is calling on lawmakers to pass his COVID-19 relief bill, which he unveiled in December, as soon as possible. The bill allows the Joint Finance Committee to spend $100 million to support COVID-19 efforts. The Republican majority has not been receptive to Evers’ previous calls to pass this pandemic legislation.
