State to Start Paying for National Guard COVID-19 Efforts

Gov. Evers said the state will cover part of the costs of the Wisconsin National Guard COVID-19 response efforts when the federal government begins to lower its financial support come August 21. President Trump announced the federal government will extend the National Guard’s coronavirus response mission through the end of the year, but it will only pay 75% of the bill. Guard members have done key work during the public health emergency, such as specimen collection and distribution of PPE. Evers estimated the cost to the state will be $4 million and would most likely come from CARES Act funds.
