Telehealth Could Worsen Digital Divide for People with Disabilities

A new paper published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association says telehealth may exacerbate inequities for people with disabilities. The paper authors note that telehealth services could improve healthcare access for people with disabilities, given the challenges of transportation. But more thoughtful design is required to ensure people with communication-related disabilities can use services. Another factor the authors considered is access to broadband services. People with disabilities are less likely to have high speed internet, especially in rural areas.
