Wisconsin Healthcare Costs Among Highest in Nation

A recent report from the Health Care Cost Institute examined health care spending for people with employer-sponsored insurance in the United States. Wisconsin ranked fifth in the 2018, with health care spending per person at $6772, above the national average. Between 2014 and 2018, spending on healthcare went up by more than 20% in Wisconsin. Prescription drugs costs, which had a nearly 40% increase 2014-2018, were higher than the national average.

Despite above average increases in healthcare spending, Wisconsin ranks 23rd in the U.S. in overall health. The United Heath Foundation ranked Wisconsin third in the country for obesity, ninth for the uninsured rate, and last for excessive drinking.
